Problem summary
When transcoding a retimed clip (that has been retimed using the 'Editorial>Retime function), if this clip is re-read back into Nuke Studio, it will not be retimed and a section of the clip will appear with empty frames at the end.
As such, if you attempt to apply the same retime to this clip, this will either shorten or lengthen the black frames created from the transcode.
This occurs with both image and movie based source footage and the 'apply retimes' function in the export settings unfortunately does not resolve the issue.
Customer reported version
nuke.11.1v1
Customer reported platform
10.12
Steps to reproduce
1) Import a clip into Nuke Studio
2) Cut the clip to 50-100 frames long (preferably from the middle)
3) Retime the clip by right-clicking the clip and selecting the 'Editorial>Retime'
4) Alter the percentage value to 200%
5) Right-click on the clip and select 'Export...'
6) Choose the 'Process as Shots' export setting and select the 'Transcode Shots DPX' preset
7) Confirm that you have the following set correctly:
a) Cut Length for the Handles
b) Selected the 'Apply Retimes' checkbox
c) Set the Retiming Method to None
d) Selected the 'Keep Nuke Script' checkbox
8) Select Export
9) Re-import the footage into the Nuke Studio script and compare against the original Result: Although the durations are the same, there is no retime applied and there will be black at the end of the clip
10) Apply the 200% retime to the new clip for the correct retime Result: The retime will shorten the clip length and the end of the clip will be in the middle of the clip range, cutting off half of the clip.
Workaround
There are several workarounds for this issue:
1) Open the Nuke script we created earlier when transcoding the footage, alter the value the TimeClip to match that to the project clip duration and re-export. This will mean that you will have to reapply the retime in Nuke Studio. This method would also work with versioning.
2) For Nuke 11.0v4 and earlier versions, we would suggest using the TimeWarp soft effect to conduct retimes, as this method has been tested and confirmed to work correctly. Unfortunately, we have recently discovered an issue with exporting the TimeWarp node within Nuke 11.1 releases and would advise against this method for these releases, until this separate bug has been fixed.
Reproduced by support
This bug has been reproduced in:
Nuke 11.1v1 - Windows 7 - MacOSX 10.13 - CentOS 6.9
Nuke 11.0v4 - Windows 7
Nuke 11.0v1 - Windows 7 - MacOSX 10.12 - CentOS 6.9
Nuke 10.5v7 - Windows 7
Nuke 10.5v1 - Windows 7 - regression
Earliest version tested
Nuke 10.0v5
- This issue no longer appears in this version and has regressed
Expected behaviour
When transcoding using the 'editorial>retime' option, this retime should be applied to the exported frames
Actual behaviour
When transcoding using the 'editorial>retime' option, the clip is not retimed and excessive empty frames are added to the length of the original duration of the un-retimed clip.
