ID 127040 - Top level help from args files does not display in renderer specific shading nodes

Follow

Problem summary

If a shader Args file has help information at its top level, a question mark icon will be displayed when the shader is instantiated in a Material node. However if instantiated in a renderer specific shading node the top level help information is not displayed anywhere.

Customer reported version
Katana 3.0v4

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Katana with the Arnold plug-in loaded.

  2. Create a Material node and edit its parameters.

  3. Click “Add Shader” and select arnold > surface.

  4. In the arnoldSurfaceShader dropdown, select “add” as the shader type. Note that there is a question mark icon displayed to the left of the triangle to expand the shader parameters, which can be clicked to open a help dialog with a description of the shader.

  5. Create an ArnoldShadingNode and edit its parameters.

  6. In the nodeType dropdown menu, select add as the shading node type.

Expected behaviour
The same question mark icon that appears in the Material node should be displayed somewhere in the ShadingNode’s parameter interface, for example next to the parameters group parameter header, giving the user the ability to open the help window.

Actual behaviour
The top level help for the shader type is not displayed anywhere.
