ID 324304 - Texture Anti-Aliasing blurs texture when world coordinates is off

Follow

When Anti-Aliasing is enabled and world coordinates on the texture locator are disabled, the rendered texture is blurred. The more extreme the difference between the location of the Texture locator and the location of the polygons, the more blurred the texture appears to be.

This is compared to the same scene with world coordinates enabled, and the texture locator matching the coordinates/orientation of the mesh.

Cubic projection is used for all scenes.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open Modo.
2. Select File>Open and navigate to the provided scenes. Open both.
3. Select "01-WC_Off" and press "f9" to render the scene.
4. Select "02-WC_On" and press "f9" to render the scene.
Result: the render from "01-WC Off" is slightly blurrier.
Note: alt01-WC_off is much blurrier, but more complex.

Workaround

Disable Anti-aliasing, or bake the textures down to use the UV map. UV mapped textures do not have this issue.
