ID 380815 - Using the "Smooth" tool on a mesh with multiple sculpting layers on the same part of the mesh, pushes the geometry in different directions instead of smoothing

Problem summary
Using the "Smooth" tool on a mesh with multiple sculpting layers on the same part of the mesh, pushes the geometry in different directions instead of smoothing.

Customer reported version
Modo 12.2v1

Customer reported platform
Windows 10

Steps to reproduce

1) Open Modo. Switch to the "Painting and Sculpting" toolbar by clicking on the "Brush" icon.

2) Create a mesh, e.g. a cube and then enable a sculpting tool to open the "Multi Resolution Palette" tab.

3) In the Multi Resolution Palette, enable the "MultiRes" option and click on the "up arrow" icon to subdivide the cube multiple times.

4) Click on the "Layers" icon to bring up the "Sculpting Palette" tab. In the tab, add several sculpting layers.

5) Sculpt on the same parts of the mesh in each sculpting layer with different sculpting tools.

6) Select the "Smooth" tool and to start to smooth the sculpting details on the mesh in any layer. Instead of smoothing the sculpting details in the currently selected layer and other underlying layers that are enabled, the "Smooth" tool pushes the mesh geometry inwards or outwards.

Workaround
Disable any other sculpting layers before using the "Smooth" tool on a single sculpting layer.

Reproduced by support

This bug has been reproduced in:
Modo 12.2v1 - Windows 10 - MacOSX 10.13 - CentOS 7

Modo 12.1v2 - Windows 10

Modo 12.0v1 - Windows 10

Modo 11.2v3 - Windows 10

Modo 11.1v1 - Windows 10

Modo 11.0v3 - Windows 10

Modo 10.2v4 - Windows 10 - MacOSX 10.13 - CentOS 7

Earliest version tested
Modo 10.2v4 - Windows 10 - MacOSX 10.13 - CentOS 7 -  This issue appears to be in all versions of the product.

Expected behaviour
The "Smooth" tool should be able to smooth the current selected sculpting layer and any other underlying layers on the same part of the mesh.

Actual behaviour
If multiple sculpting layers are enabled and used on the same part of the mesh, then the "Smooth" tool pushes the mesh geometry in different directions instead of smoothing.
