Follow

Problem summary
Users have found that Rendering a Timeline Comp under a Soft Effect, causes the rendered footage to be black.

This issue appears to only occur with PNG image sequences.

The footage is not actually rendered black ( It is correct within its file location ), but its Viewer look and thumbnail will be black.

Customer reported version
nuke.11.2v5

Customer reported platform
windows10

Steps to reproduce

1) Open a new project in NukeStudio/Hiero

2) Import an image sequence and drop it in the Timeline to create a new Sequence

3) Right Click the new clip and select "Effects -> Create Comp Special..."

4) Within the Create Comp Special window, select "Nuke basic Shot".

5) Within the Peset, select the Nuke Write and switch it to PNG:

6) Create the comp

7) In the Timeline, create a Grade node soft effect own its own channel, modify some of the knobs.

8) Double click the Comp TrackItem and within the Write node, Render the footage.

9) After the footage is rendered, scrub through the timeline.

Result: The new Nuke script may have a black Thumbnail and appear black.
If the Track is fine, open the comp, version up, modify the script and render again.

Flipping between both Comp versions should display the black viewer issue.

Workaround
Using another format such as EXR or DPX do not have black Viewer issues.
