Problem summary

If the current Sculpt Tool is released or if another Sculpt Tool is activated, then the actual sculpting result is displayed on the mesh.

Steps to reproduce
1) Open Modo and create a sphere.
2) Select the sphere and press "M" to assign a new material to it.
3) Click on the "Brush" button in the left corner of the window to switch to the Painting and Sculpting Toolbar.
4) Open the Utilities tab and then select "Add Displacement Texture". Select a location to save the new displacement texture. In the New Still dialog, leave all the options by default and then click "OK".
5) Enable the Symmetry Tool by clicking on the "Symmetry" button.
6) Go to the Sculpt Tools tab and select a Sculpt Tool, e.g. Push Tool. Start to sculpt on the sphere.
7) Release the sculpt stroking and notice that the sculpted parts of the sphere have disappeared or shrunk in size. In the Shader Tree, click on the displacement image to display it in the Image Viewer window. The sculpting result is seen on the displacement image but not on the sphere in the viewport.
