ID 394773 - Slow project load time when a substantial node graph is viewed

Follow

Problem summary:

Loading a project that has the view flag set on a node that has a substantial connected upstream node graph is slow (specifically, significantly slower than in Katana 3.0, scaling poorly with number of nodes).

Steps to reproduce:

  1. In the Node Graph tab's Edit menu, turn Dim Nodes Not Contributing to Viewed Node or Dim Nodes Unconnected to Viewed Node on.
  2. Load a project that has the view flag set on a node that has a substantial connected upstream node graph (1000+ nodes).

Expected behaviour:

The project loads in a time comparable to that in Katana 3.0.

Actual behaviour:

The project loads in a time that is significantly greater than in Katana 3.0.

Workarounds:

  • In the Node Graph tab's Edit menu, turn Dim Nodes Not Contributing to Viewed Node and Dim Nodes Unconnected to Viewed Node off.
  • Unset the view flag when saving a project.

Tested versions/platforms:

  • 3.0 (all) - Unaffected
  • 3.1 (all) - Affected

Customer version/platform:

3.1v4/Linux
