Steps to reproduce

1) Create a simple curve, and then enable Vertices mode.

2) Select one of the vertices on the curve and then select Vertex>Split

3) Enable Polygon mode and see that there are now two separate curves.

4) Enable Vertices mode and select the previously split vertices and select Vertex>Split.

5) Enable Polygon mode and select the two separate curves and select Polygon>Merge

6) If you now hover over the curve, notice how the selection doesn't work as expected.

Expected behaviour

The curve should be highlighted and selectable.

Actual behaviour
The curve isn't being highlighted and is hard to select.
