Customer reported version
modo.13.0v1

Customer reported platform
windows10

Steps to reproduce
1) Open Modo.
2) Select File > Open the attached scene.
3) Press "F9" to render the scene.
Result: The "Instance" item will render, despite having an item shader applied with "Visible to Camera" disabled.

Expected behaviour
Instance items should be affected by item shaders regardless of whether an item mask is applied.

Actual behaviour
Instance items are only affected by item shaders if an item mask is applied.

Workaround
Add an item mask or set a material on the instance item.
