Steps to reproduce

1) Download and open the attached scene file.
2) Hover over the Button1 and Button2 items, notice how the item is pre-highlight is active for both objects.
3) Select the Backdrop item and make it visible.

4) Now hover over the Button1 and Button2 items again, notice how the pre-highlight fails to appear.

Expected behaviour
The pre-highlight should appear consistently.

Actual behaviour
The pre-highlight fails to appear if the backdrop is selected.

Workaround
Unknown.
