Steps to reproduce
1) Launch Modo.
2) Create a mesh primitive and assign material to it.
3) Go to Model layout.
4) Go to the Shader Tree and select the base material that you just assigned.
5) In Properties go the Material Ref tab.
6) Set Surface Normal Smoothing Angle over 90 degrees.
7) Go to the Vertex Map tools and set Hard Edge Smoothing angle to 90 degrees.
8) Click on Convert to Hard Edges.
9) Click OK in pop-up box.
10) Go to the Material Ref section of the material properties again.
11) Set Area Weighting to Largest.
12) Observe that the hard edges are not longer being observed.
 
Expected behaviour
Hard Edges should continue to be observed after setting Area Weighting to Largest.
 
Actual behaviour
Once Area Weighting is set to largest the Hard Edges are no longer respected.
 
Workaround
Unknown.
