Both Texture > Purge unused materials and Item > Scene Cleanup remove textures/materials from imported static mesh items.

Steps to reproduce

 

  1. Open Modo.
     
  2. Create a Sphere Primitive.
     
  3. Press M to Open the Material Editor and click Assign Material.
     
  4. Set the Color to a different setting for visual clarity and click Ok, then exit out of the Material Editor.
     
  5. Right Click on the Mesh in the Item List tab and go to Change Type > Static Mesh.
     
  6. Press Ctrl + N to create a new scene, then drag and drop the Static Mesh from the first scene into the new scene to import it.
     
  7. Then do either of the following, both produce the same result.

    1. Click Texture > Purge unused materials.
       
    2. Click Item > Scene Cleanup and check Unused Materials then press OK.

 

Expected behaviour

Modo shouldn't remove textures/materials from the imported static mesh.

 

Actual behaviour

Modo removes textures/materials from the imported static mesh.

 

Workaround

Unknown.
