ID 576307 - Incorrect Panels and Panel durations are imported if an AAF has a Transition not on Track 1 that is followed by a gap and a Clip with an Effect
Problem summary:
Incorrect Panels and Panel durations are imported if an AAF has a Transition not on Track 1 that is followed by a gap and a Clip with an Effect
Specific results will vary depending on the Clip lengths, Transition duration, and Clip arrangements in Avid.
Customer reported version:
Flix 6.6.2
Customer reported platform:
macOS 13 Ventura
Steps to reproduce:
1) Launch Flix and navigate to File > Preferences... > Third Party Apps > Editorial Tools, and set Avid Media Composer as the Editorial Tool.
2) Create a new Sequence Revision, then Import a small number of Panels and Save:
3) Press the Publish to Editorial button and open the AAF in Avid.
4) Move the 1st Clip to a second Video Track, place the Playhead near the end of this Clip, and press the \ key to open the Quick Transition menu.
5) Create a Dissolve Transition on the V2 Track that has a 5 frame duration and is Ending at Cut:
6) Place the 3rd Clip on the V2 Track and apply a Paint Effect to it.
7) Move the 4th Clip beneath the 3rd Clip. The Avid timeline should now look like this:
8) Navigate to File > Output > Export to File and export the Timeline to an AAF file, then Import this AAF into Flix.
9) Observe how Panel 4 has been added to the Sequence when it should not, and Panel 3 is only 7 frames long instead of 12:
Expected behavior:
Flix should import the AAF without adding any extra Panels or altering any Panel durations:
Actual behavior:
When an AAF has a Clip with a Transition that is not on Track 1 and is followed by a gap and then a Clip with an Effect, Flix will create some incorrect Panels and have incorrect Panel durations after importing the AAF. This problem does not occur if the "Transition > gap > Clip + Effect" are on Track 1, like with the following setup:
Alternate configurations that produce this behavior: A) If no Clip is below Clip 3, an extra gap Ref Panel will be added to the Sequence in Flix:
B) If Clip 5 is placed beneath Clip 1, Panel 4 is imported twice when it shouldn't be present at all:
C) If the Clip and Transition durations in configuration B are increased from the default 12 frames, Panel 4 will still be incorrectly added to the sequence, but the duration on Panel 3 will be correct:
Workaround:
To prevent this issue, move the Clip with the Transition up or down a Track until it is no longer on the same Track as a Clip with an Effect:
Alternatively, placing an additional Filler Effect above the Clip with the Effect seems to also stop the problem from occurring:
