Problem summary
Geometry instanced in Modo and exported as an STL has flipped normals.
Customer reported version
Modo 17.0v8
Customer reported platform
Windows 11
Steps to reproduce
1) Open Modo. Create a Cube, Subdivide the Cube
(hotkey D) and turn on the SubD modifier
(hotkey Tab) so the Cube looks like this:
2) Manipulate the Cube so that it has a unique shape.
3) Navigate to the
Duplicate tab and select
Instance Mirror. Mirror the Cube to create an instance.
4) In the
Item List, right click the instanced Cube and select
Change Type > Mesh.
5) Select the two Cubes and Freeze the Geometry by navigating to
Geometry > Freeze...
6) Export the Cubes as an .
stl file.
7) In a new Scene in Modo, open the
.stl file you have just created. The Instanced cube should have flipped normals.
Expected behaviour
The Cubes should both have correctly-facing normals.
Actual behaviour
See the image:
Here you can see the original Cube on the left and the instanced Cube on the right. The instanced Cube has flipped normals.
